Lelo does not honour the statutory EU guarantee, breaks the law

In October 2013 we purchased a Lelo Smart Wand Massager Medium. It worked fine for a while and we were happy with it.

However in summer 2015 it stopped working reliably. When plugged in, it would sometimes not turn on. When unplugged it would almost never turn on. When turned on it would turn itself off at the slightest shock.

We contacted Lelo Customer Care who acknowleged the fault very quickly and offered a 50% discount on another product if we were to send them back the defective goods to Sweden at our own expense. We asked for a refund or replacement as per the minimum legal EU guarantee (two years) which we pointed to repeatedly but they refused to acknowledge it and insisted their guarantee is only valid for one year.

We believe this is a violation of European consumer laws.
